Early Immigration 1775 from Scotland of two Gillespie men.
“Settlement of the region by the British did not take place until the founding of the colony of Georgia in 1732. Scottish immigration to Georgia in the 1730s can be divided into two distinct immigrations: The Lowlanders and the Highlanders. The Lowerlanders went for purely economic reasons. The Highlanders were received for strategic purposes, basically to guard against a Spanish invasion. ” (Public Records Office, London)
