Amri “Joyce”Garner Gillespie At 7AM on April 19, 2026, our beautiful and beloved Mama and Nana left this earthly world and reunited with her mother and other family. She was born on July 8, 1936 in Hinkley, Leicestershire, ENGLAND. World War II began in England in 1939, so her formative years were of donning gas masks, going to the bunker in air raids, and housing American GIs who were passing through onto their next duty assignment. She often recalled the scratchy wool of the soldier’s coat, and asking, “Hey, GI. You got any gum?” She often picked up strips of aluminum that were dropped by British planes and were used to scramble the radar of the dreaded buzz bombs. In 1962, she boarded the Queen Mary to begin her new life as a “Mother’s Help” in New York City and effectively started the British Invasion. It was in NYC where she met Henry Gillespie, and relocated to Anderson, SC in the early 1970s. During her lifetime, she taught her children a love for the arts, and for music. She and her kids would stand at the theater doors and would ask for autographs from some of our favorite artists. She was very good at baseball. She could make contact with a bat more often than not. She loved tennis and Roger Federer. She was an avid reader, and loved reading with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved serving others. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Anderson Mayor’s Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities, and served as a volunteer on the 1996 Paralympic Committee. She was a staunch supporter of the United States military and veterans, and never forgot the sacrifices made for her.
Employed by AnMed Home Health for nearly 30 years, she was the first “Employee of the Year” in the late 1990s. She continued working at AnMed until she was in her 70s. During retirement, she saw as many concerts as she could, with her favorites being the Moody Blues, Cliff Richards, Queen, Barry Manilow, Ringo Starr, The Zombies, The Beach Boys, Air Supply, and Bare Naked Ladies. She went to as many plays and theater as she could.
Cherishing her memories are her daughters Lisa Gillespie and Amy Reeves, her son Christopher Gillespie (Thao) , her grandchildren, Heather Gillespie and William Willett, and her great-grandchildren, Jayden, McKenzie, Briana, Kalee, Emma, and Ashlyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur S. Garner and Doreen Hackett Garner, also, Henry Gillespie, and her daughter, Dawn Leslie Gillespie. The family hosted a celebration of Joyce’s life at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Sandy Springs Community Park, 1116 Watkins Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
Ann Jenkins Gillespie, 65, wife of Randall (Randy) Houston Gillespie, of Hollywood, SC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Born January 30, 1958, Ann was the daughter of Agnes Yates Stevens Jenkins, of Yonges Island, now residing in Brunswick, GA, and the late Charles (Billy) William Jenkins, of Charleston, SC, and the sister to William (Billy) Stanyarne Jenkins (Debbie), currently of Lake City, FL. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 41 years; their two sons, Travis Randall Gillespie and Troy Stanyarne Stevens Gillespie; their grandsons, Trevor Houston Gillespie and Hank Stanyearn Stevens Petrone; and their granddaughters, Addison Eileen Gillespie and Georgia Paige Gillespie. Ann graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1976 and from Potomac Horse Center in 1978 with Horsemaster and Senior Instructor certificates. She earned an “A” rating in the U.S. Pony Club – the highest rating available – and won the 4H National Championship in 1976. Ann was a Broker Associate with Agent Owned Realty Co. in the Referral Group, and enjoyed creating conservation easements, protecting land for horse riding and hunting as open space forever. These were incorporated into the developments of Raven’s Bluff, Martin’s Point, Whippoorwill Farms and Bulow Plantation. Ann truly loved working with children of all ages, whether riding horses or playing and scoring baseball. Most importantly, Ann was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Ann’s funeral was held at Christ St. Paul’s Church, where Ann was a member, on May 17, 2023 at 11:00 am.

Arthur C. Gillespie (A.C.) of Greensboro, was born on July 22, 1932 in Eden, NC (Draper section) to Arthur and Ruth Gillespie. He graduated from Draper High School (1951) on Friday and joined the Air Force the following Monday. He attended Air Force school and served in the Korean war as a helicopter air rescue medic. The motto for his squadron was, “You ditch and call, we *%&#$ and haul anytime, anywhere.” A.C. was proud to have made Staff Sergeant in his three years. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in June, 1955. He married Ann Saunders in May, 1952. They had four children: Debbie, Brad, Tim, and Barry. He had eight grandchildren: Candice, Tyler, Hallie, Morgan, Blake, Patrick, Joseph, and Jack; and four great -grandchildren: Curtis, Nico, Maxwell, and Winnie. A.C. is survived by his sisters Norma Jane and Ruth Ann Foster, brother, Ronnie Foster, and brother-in-law, Charles Saunders. A.C. loved his family, his career, and, in general, his life. He was with A.H. Robinson Pharmaceutical Company for 28 years and enjoyed four different positions. His children would never doubt the deep love their father had for them. He had many interests: music, oil painting, golf, reading, fishing, and ACC sports. He especially enjoyed telling stories over a glass of scotch. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann, brother Mike, and son-in-law Curt Stewart. During the last nine years of his life, A.C. spent many happy days with his best friend, Fay Hunsucker. Charles Thomas Gillespie, Jr “Tom” Cayce – passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017. He was born on September 11, 1950 in Columbia to the late Charles Thomas and Emmerleen Giovatto Gillespie. Tom was retired from WLTX where he worked for thirty four years. He was an avid bowler and also a member of The Midlands Bowling Hall of Fame. He was the founder and editor of the Columbia Bowling Review.
Tom was a Veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his wife, Linda Bailey Gillespie; and a sister, Monola Faye Gillespie. Mr. Gillespie is survived by sisters, Jo Ann Tager (Horace), Kathy Adkins (Terry); brother, James Gillespie (Sarah); along with numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte Ann Wines Gillespie, born on November 8, 1937, peacefully departed this life on December 20, 2023. Born in Spencer, WV, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice McGlothin Wines. Charlotte was the beloved wife of Glenn Allen Gillespie. A proud graduate of Barboursville High School, Charlotte pursued higher education at Marshall University, Austin Peay University, and Atlanta Area Tech. She served her country with honor in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) veteran serving from 1970 to 1973. Following her military service, Charlotte dedicated her career to nursing, providing compassionate care to those in need until her well-deserved retirement. In addition to her husband, Glenn, Charlotte is survived by her son, David Bolen (Karen), residing in Flowery Branch, G.A., and her daughter, Devora McKenzie, residing in Hogansville GA. Also three grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Charlotte was a life member of the Order Of the Eastern Star, serving as a Past Matron. She also held a life membership with the Disabled American Veterans and served as an Adjutant, and also as a member of City Council in North Charleston for eight years.
Charlotte’s commitment to her community extended to various roles, including her service on the RDA for the Naval Base, volunteer work for the Reidville Fire Station, secretary for the HOA at Saddle Brook Community, and her service on the Charleston County MAPS Committee. There will be no formal services at this time.

Donald Brooks Gillespie, “Don” of Woodruff. 85, of 816 Cross Anchor Road went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Regional Hospice Home. He was born March 11, 1939, in Spartanburg County to the late Brooks Thomas Gillespie and Janie Lou Payne Gillespie. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was also a textile sales manager for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodruff where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. He was also Past Master with Bethel Masonic Lodge #112.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Dianne Taylor Gillespie of the home; one son, Scott Gillespie (Laurie) of Woodruff; two daughters, Lisa Barker (Steve) of Atlanta, Georgia and Brooke Clay (Gregg) of Moore; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Caldwell and a brother, James “Jim” Gillespie.
A Celebration of Life service was held Friday, August 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodruff by Rev. Andrew Shull and Rev. Dr. Todd Lowe. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Frazier Jordan Gillespie, 97, went home to be eternally with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 17, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a man of great humility. The family received friends on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A Graveside Service was held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, with Rev. Dr. Mike Honeycutt officiating.
Frazier was born on April 26, 1927, in Richburg, South Carolina, to the late John Thomas Gillespie and Essie Wylie Gillespie. He was born on the family farm and was one of nine children. Frazier met the love of his life, Margaret Catherine Jackson, while they both worked at the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company. Before joining the U. S. Navy, he and Margaret were married on March 1, 1945. After completing his service in the Navy, Frazier and Margaret moved to Rock Hill, SC, where they would spend their life and raise their family. They welcomed 4 children into their life over the course of the next 16 years. Nothing was more important to Frazier than his wife, his children, and family! Frazier was a man of God, whose deep faith and devotion to his Lord. He and Margaret were married for 71 wonderful years before her passing on March 15, 2016. He loved and served her through “sickness and in health” in the most beautiful of ways as he taught his children the true meaning of unconditional love. He never met a stranger and was always generous and eager to help anyone in need. During the last 6-years of his life while suffering from the loss of short-term memory due to Dementia, he maintained an impeccable memory of life experiences and past relationships, and he loved sharing stories with family and friends. Frazier had a long-accomplished career as a Millwright of almost 45 years at Celanese and Georgia Pacific. In retirement, he worked for York County Recycling for 19 years. He was a member of West End Baptist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Jackson Gillespie in 2016, his eldest child, Douglas Jordan Gillespie in 2021 and daughter, Catherine Gillespie Grant in 2005. He is survived by his sons, Don Gillespie (Jan) of Rock Hill, SC, Jack Gillespie (Denise) of Rock Hill, SC, thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Fred’s interests were diverse and indicative of his nurturing nature. He took immense pride in caring for his yard, cultivating beautiful roses that brought joy to his life and those around him. Alongside his passion for gardening, he enjoyed spending his leisure time making jewelry, a hobby that displayed both his creativity and craftsmanship.
Fred leaves behind his son Fred Calvin Gillespie, Jr (Frances), his daughter Sandra Delores Gillespie Brothers, his grandchildren Fred Calvin Gillespie III (Denise), Sam McLeod and Sandy Gillespie, and great-grandchildren Jessica Gillespie, Kristen Rogers, Jacob McCleod, Dan Geddings, Samantha McLeod, Elisabeth McLeod, Abigail McLeod, Naomi McLeod and Selah McLeod and Hannah Layne. He was predeceased by his wife, Sybil Louise Gillespie, his parents, Claude and Janie Gillespie, and a grandson Dan Gillespie.
A funeral service to honor Fred’s life was hosted at Rock Springs Baptist Church located at 201 Rock Springs Rd, Easley, SC 29642. The visitation took place on February 13, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM and concluding at 12:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.

Gordon Keith Gillespie, 61, of Lexington, SC, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Born on October 29, 1964, in Davenport, Iowa, Gordon grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa, and is a graduate of Bettendorf High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving with the 101st Airborne Division—a chapter of his life that remained a point of immense lifelong pride.
Following his military service, Gordon built a successful 40-plus-year career in purchasing and procurement, working most recently with Blanchard Machinery. A dedicated professional, he earned lifetime membership as a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM). A loyal Hawkeye through and through, Gordon served as President of the Columbia Iowa Club (part of the University of Iowa Alumni Association) and was recognized as the UICA “Volunteer of the Year” during the 2015-2016 season for his dedicated leadership. Above all, Gordon knew how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures with those he loved. He was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeyes fan, an avid Lego builder, a true movie buff, and a master at game nights involving trivia, Singo, and cards. He cherished quiet evenings with his wife, Jennifer, especially watching Hallmark movies together. An affectionate dog lover with a soft spot for dachshunds, Gordon leaves behind his beloved Gretel and Hansel, and is reunited with Penny and Theo.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; his children, Adam (Airi) Gillespie of Forest Hills, NY, and Amber (Joshua) Walker of Burnsville, NC; and his cherished grandchildren, Lewis Gillespie and Sean Walker. Joyce H Gillespie, age 81, loving wife of the late Graham Gillespie, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Baptist Easley Hospital. Born on February 22, 1945, in Six Mile, South Carolina, Joyce was the cherished daughter of the late Samuel I. Henderson and Gertrude Skelton Henderson. A woman of the Baptist faith, she lived a life grounded in quiet devotion and simple joys. Joyce found great pleasure in reading and expressed her creativity through crafts, especially knitting, crocheting, and quilting, skills that reflected both her patience and her love for creating something meaningful by hand. She was a proud member of the Yak and Yarn group, where she shared her talents and fellowship with others who held similar passions. Joyce’s beloved little dog, Rosie, brought her immense comfort and happiness. She cared deeply for her faithful companion and found peace in knowing her furry friend would always be looked after. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kristal Doherty and husband, Thomas Jr. of Pickens; her son, Scott Gillespie and wife, Cynthia of Liberty; her grandchildren, Thomas Doherty, III and fiancé, Waverly, Ryan Doherty, Erin Doherty Proffitt and husband, Ryan, Katelyn Turner, Avery Gillespie, and Jaylie Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Nate, and Juliette; sister, Carol Henderson Walsh of Easley; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Henderson; sister-in-law, Frances Henderson; and brother-in-law, Bill Walsh. Lucy Rose Gillespie, 86, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Born Lucy Rose Caldwell on November 15, 1937, Lucy grew up in the Granite Capitol of the World, also known as Elberton, Georgia. She was one of four children born to Jack and Sadie Caldwell. She attended area schools, graduating from Elberton High in 1955. Lucy had the great fortune of marrying into a family of seven brothers. She caught the eye of Air Force Staff Sergeant William Lafayette Gillespie, brother number four. Bill and Lucy married in 1957 and had thirty wonderful years together before his death in 1987. Their marriage produced two loving children, Eleanor Ann and William Michael. The family of four traveled for Bill’s military career, including stints in the Philippines and Mountain Home, Idaho before settling in Columbia, South Carolina.
Lucy worked as the church secretary at Kathwood Baptist for twenty years, while earning her AA degree. She could often be found at sporting events, watching her grandchildren play everything from basketball to soccer. As a lifelong Presbyterian, she was a member of the “coffee cups class” at Petersen Presbyterian, and served as the church pianist. Lucy was then active at Forest Lake Presbyterian. Lucy’s great passion was dogs, often preferring them to people. She was never without a canine companion- Dumb Dumb, Klaus, Sandy, Oreo, and Essie, to name a few. Lucy often fostered dogs from Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS), where she volunteered for many years.
Lucy is survived by her son, William Michael “Mike” Gillespie (Kelly) of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Matt Gillespie (Sarah), Will Gillespie (Lauren), Scott Gillespie, Catherine Gillespie Lemon (Davis), Riley Ammons, and Reagan Ammons; and four great-grandchildren, Addison and Evie Gillespie, Jack Gillespie, and her namesake, Lucy Lemon. In addition to her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her daughter, Ann Gillespie; brothers, Tom and Donnie Caldwell, and sister, Betty Thornton. A service of celebration to honor Lucy’s life was held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC. The family received friends at 10:00 a.m. in the church narthex prior to the service. Lucy was interred alongside her husband in a private burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Maria Gillespie. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Gillespie, who left this world peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on January 21, 1940, in Tampa, Florida, she was the widow of William “Bill” Gillespie, Sr. and a daughter of the late Nicholas and Thelma Malphurs Macchiarella. Maria lived a life filled with love, dedication, and resilience, leaving behind a legacy cherished by those who knew her.
Maria achieved numerous accomplishments, where her warm spirit and kind smile touched the lives of countless patrons. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she opened her first business, (Maria’s) Dress Shop in Mobile, AL growing that business into 5 locations. Farmers Hill Pet Grooming which developed into 5 locations in SC, achieving national recognition for the largest pet grooming facility nationally. Maria’s determination along with Bill’s ingenuity jointly owned and operated Southern Vinyl Siding and Window Manufacturing, Inc. in Liberty, SC. Together they built a profound legacy, achieving awards such as: Manufacture of the Year Award by the SC Chamber of Commerce, the Golden Torch Award presented by the BBB. Proceeding Bill’s passing she continued to excel by achieving the Upstate Business Woman of the year Award. Maria expanded her presence in civil work by stepping up to President of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce that roll lead her into Leadership Pickens County where she served on the Board of Regents, Pickens County Alliance, Pickens/ Oconee County Coalition and briefly served on the board for school of business at Southern Wesleyan University, as well as other various local boards. Maria not only holds one but two keys to the City of Liberty for her contributions. Maria’s involvement in Civic & Charitable organizations became her passion. Maria was very proud of her involvement with the development of Mary’s House which benefited & sheltered battered women. Maria served various roles with her active participation with The Order of The Eastern Star, Daughter’s of the Nile as well as her cherished membership as order of the Amaranth serving both SC & GA. Positions served were Royal Matron twice, had various Grand Officer positions & Grand Representative Appointments. Through these organizations she raised money for diabetic research & disabled children. At the age of 76 Maria pivoted using her extensive construction background & strong leadership abilities. She obtained her SC Real Estate License and hung them under her daughter’s BIC license with Southern Real Estate & Development, Inc. Once again allowing her to work closely with her family & serve her community. Maria became a trusted figure in the construction industry with her SC Builders License, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike.
Those left to cherish her memory include her 4 children, Deborah Stehle (Chuck) and their daughter Tia Stehle, Francine “Tor-Tor” Powers (Aaron) and their children, Brittney Casagrande and Shaun Powers (Karen), and Vikki Blair (Kenneth) and their children, Tyler and Austin Blair, William “Poe” Gillespie (Detta) along with their children Matt and Amy Gillespie; a stepson, Anthony Gillespie; four step daughters, Constance Moody, Tracy Dean, Sandra Bryant, and Carolyn Gordon; also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services to honor Maria’s life were conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at New Image Church, 311 Anderson Highway, Easley SC 29642. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary.
Dr. Marion Ray Gillespie, Anderson, SC- age 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Norris, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse Davis Gillespie, Sr. and the late Lillie Mae Carpenter Gillespie. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of Lt. Colonel of the Medical Corp. He graduated from Clemson University in 1953 and later from the Medical University of South Carolina – Charleston. He did his Otolaryngology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital. He was Chief of Otolaryngology for American Forces in Europe and was stationed for four years at the 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. He practiced at Anderson Eye & Ear Association for 30 years and was founding partner of Medicus. Dr. Gillespie was a life member of American Legion and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where he served as Deacon and leader of the Gillespie Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his children, Andrea Clare Gillespie Williford and her husband Lawrence of Macon, GA, Dr. Marion Boyd Gillespie and his wife Charlotte of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Allen Ray Gillespie and his wife Kelly of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Lillian Clare, Helen Margaret and Philip Boyd Gillespie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Edward Alexander and Allen William Gillespie of Simpsonville, SC, and Hamp and Grier Williford of Macon, GA; and brothers, Dr. Jesse Davis Gillespie, Jr. of Lexington, SC and Dr. Hal Gravely Gillespie of Spokane, WA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrtle Eddins Gillespie and a brother, Charles Gillespie.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Anderson with Reverend Josh Hunt officiating. Interment at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Monday, November 26, 2012, at 10:00 am. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Gillespie Sunday School Class and the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Anderson and Dr. Dan Fleming, Dr. Phil Wilmeth, Dr. Chase Hunter, Dr. Dewey Niles and Mr. Dan Gissendanner. The family received friends on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and Orangeburg – Calhoun Technical College. He worked as a former Snap-on Dealer and former Owner-Operator of Quick Lube in Orangeburg. Recently, he was self-employed as a Mechanics Service Advisor. He attended Cornerstone Church in Orangeburg.

Ralph Gillespie a public servant in Spartanburg, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 97. Ralph was born Oct 20, 1928 in Walhalla, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Major Toccoa Gillespie and the late Inez Rowland. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years: Rosalina “Lena” Brandt Gillespie; two daughters: Millie and Pamela Lynn Gillespie; two sisters: Evelyn Winkler and Maxine May; and one brother: Ray Gillespie.
In 1965 Ralph became the first president of the Milliken Industrial Division where he formed many everlasting friendships before his retirement. After his retirement in 1989, the weaving plant in Union, South Carolina was renamed in his honor. He also was committed to excellence in business, education, and the well-being of his community. He served as past chairman of the Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, Holy Communion Lutheran Church Building Committee during all 4 phases, USC Upstate Board, Board of the Business School of USC, and past chairman of the Spartanburg Board of Education. In his spare time, you could find him at his lake home on Lake Lanier. Left to cherish Ralph’s many memories are his two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Carey Gillespie, and Maxwell and Belinda Gillespie; one daughter and son-in-law: Portia and Steve Walker. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
The family received friends between 1:00 and 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 1430 John B White Sr BLVD, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The funeral service to honor Mr. Ralph Gillespie’s life began at 2:00 PM following the visitation. Reverend Allen Kinsley will be officiating the service. He was laid to rest beside his late wife Rosalina in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
SMSgt Randall H. “Gil” Gillespie, USAF, Retired, participated in his final Commander’s Call, Sunday, October 15th, 2023. He was surrounded by loving family when he realized, “it was time to come home, his tour of duty was through, you’ve given as much as anyone could be expected to do”. These words are from a poem by Robert Longley, A Hero’s Welcome. Gil was born to Roy and Helen Gillespie on Monday, November 14, 1938, in Greer, South Carolina. He was a beloved husband; father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many. His love of music was instrumental in his life and the friendships he built. Music was his passion. Gil’s service to this Nation was his pride. He served this country for nearly 50 years. He served two years in the Army National Guard, 28 years in the USAF, and almost 20 years in an Air Force civilian position. His service took him to many foreign countries. He had assignments, or temporary duty in Thailand, France, Belgium, and Germany. His overseas duty also included two tours in Viet Nam. In his second Viet Nam tour, he was wounded in a mortar attack while stationed in DaNang, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Gil is preceded by his parents; six siblings; wife, Clara; and their child, Randall Jr. Surviving family includes his wife, Barbara; four siblings; children; grandkids; and great-grandkids.

Sarah Clyde Morgan Gillespie (Sally), 85, passed from her earthly life at her home on Jan. 18, 2025. Sally was born on Dec. 5, 1939, in Cedartown, Ga, to Julian (Hardage) Morgan and Emory Clyde (E.C.) Morgan. Along with being named for her father, Sally was also named for her great-grandmother, Sarah Jane Lee Hagan. She enjoyed her childhood with her dear sister, Julianne, whom she called “Sissy.” The two of them carried on their family tradition as members of the Cedartown Rod & Gun Club, swimming, fishing, berry-picking, home-cooked meals, story-telling, jigsaw puzzles, and sing-alongs into the wee hours with longtime friends on their cabin’s back porch.
Sally was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Cedartown and graduated from Cedartown High School in 1958. Her high-spirited, best friend was Norma, and the two remained close throughout Sally’s life. Sally studied Home Economics for two years at Auburn University and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. On a blind date, Sally met the love of her life, Lt. Thomas (Tom) Evan Gillespie Jr, USMC, in Pensacola, Fla., where he was stationed for flight training school. They were married in 1960 at McFall Memorial Chapel in Kingsville, Texas. Sally finished her Auburn bachelor’s degree through correspondence courses while living on the military base in El Toro, Calif. She was always proud to shout “War Eagle” especially when Auburn was up against her husband’s Vanderbilt teams! They shared fifty-five wonderful years together before Tom’s death in 2016.
Sally and Tom raised two daughters, Emory Ann Gillespie (Bob David) and Susan Hays Gillespie Elliott (Tim). With deep sorrow, Sally, her extended family, and friends lost their beloved Susan to illness in 2009. Grandchildren Tom Henry (Rachel), Raina (Adam), Austin (Christene), Wesley (McKinley), Julian, and great-granddaughter, Josephine Hays, brought joy to her life, and she brought joy to theirs, too. Sally also cherished her times with her niece, Anne (Dan), and nephews Michael (Esther), Jeff (Sumner), John (Vicky), and their wonderful children, John, Reed, Morgan, Jane Perry, Walker, Emery Pierce, and Walton. With her son-in-law, Bob, on the crew, Sally built her beach house at Pawley’s Island and named it The Mustard Seed. There, Sally and Tom hosted many joyful family gatherings where all ages enjoyed casting for shrimp, fishing for flounder, and floating in the creek on the outgoing tide.
Sally used her discerning eye and fine taste to design an array of lovely homes and gardens from Columbia, S.C., to Statesville, N.C., and from Basking Ridge, N.J., to their Georgetown home of nearly fifty years. Friends and family alike appreciated her hospitality. Sally also provided delicious meals ? often taking classes to perfect a certain cuisine ? and then preparing elegant tables for family, friends or Tom’s business visitors. She designed and created outfits for her two daughters. Her Christmas mornings were memorably sparkling, with each family member receiving a stack of thoughtful holiday gifts she had been collecting the entire year.
Sally taught science at her daughters’ school, Winyah Academy. She later worked as an officer at Andrews Bank and Trust and expanded her financial education in Boulder, Colo. Then, she obtained her real estate license, and became an agent for Pawley’s Island Realty. Sally was devoted to the Georgetown Presbyterian Church for nearly fifty years. She served in many roles, including Elder, Deacon, Committee Chair, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Community Outreach Supporter, and the Chair of Church Improvement Projects. Sally also took seriously her volunteer role as a member of the Georgetown Architectural Review Board (ARB). She educated herself ? and was deeply familiar with ? all aspects of maintaining Georgetown’s wide collection of historic homes and buildings. Sally was passionate about historic architecture and was an ardent preservationist. (Her out-of-state daughters were also clear on what they should and should not do to their own homes, thanks to their mother’s research!) Sally was proud to live in the distinguished, downtown community of Georgetown and considered its diversity to be its greatest strength. With her enthusiasm, dedication and knowledge, she encouraged the restoration of dozens of historically significant homes and businesses, preserving Georgetown’s racial, religious, and commercial integrity for generations to come. Sally’s family recognizes her devoted community of friends and neighbors who, particularly after the loss of her daughter, Susan, and husband, Tom, became Sally’s adopted kin, a chosen family of kindred spirits who sustained and inspired her through collective aspirations, adventures, and endeavors, remaining steadfast to the end. Sally’s chosen family includes Elise, Roxanne, Jane, Harold, Rose, Tim, Nonie, Elizabeth, Mark, Jeff, Rita, Jim, Marcy, Bruce, Carol, Rhonda, and many others. We are grateful for all of the delightful meals and holidays you shared with Sally, and we thank you for your faithfulness to her throughout her final days. We will cherish the silent hours of vigil you kept by her side.A Memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25th, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church (USA), 558 Black River Road, Georgetown, SC 29440. Torie Lea Davis Gillespie, Greer – Tori Lea Davis Gillespie, 36, of Greer, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in Newnan, Ga. Tori was the daughter of Terry Dolvin Davis and the late Mamie Lynnette Carter Davis. She was previously an employee of Granger Distribution Center. Survivors include one son, Peyton Carter Gillespie of Greer; a daughter, Whitney Miranda Gillespie of Greer; a brother, Justin Davis of Spartanburg; and her wife, Heather Bryson.
Visitation was 1:00-3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 19 at Living Waters Funeral Home and Crematory, Lyman, SC with services following at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Tollie Carter officiated. Interment will be announced at a later date.
Tyler Gillispie was called home to the Lord on July 10, 2026. Tyler was a man of bright laughter, quiet depth, and immense love. To the world, he was a natural joker, always ready with a quick wit to make others laugh, even while gently carrying his own pain. But those who were closest to him knew, beneath the humor, lay a profoundly thoughtful, compassionate soul who loved his family with everything he had. His capacity for empathy extended to all living things. When no one else would, Tyler adopted Oadie, a deaf pitbull. Oadie needed a patient, caring home and Tyler gave him exactly that, forming a bond built on unconditional love. Tyler was athletic and fearless. He proudly served his country as an infantryman in the Army National Guard. He had a deep passion for the game of golf and loved his “office” in the golfing community of Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Left to cherish the memory of this beautiful soul are his mother, Maggie Carlson (Bill); his father, Todd Gillispie; his brother, LTC Chris Gillispie (Tamara); two stepsisters, Melanie (Chris), and Kelley; his great nephew, Noah; and a huge family of aunts, uncles and cousins, who will miss him with every fiber of their being. He has now found peace and is reunited with his beloved grandparents, cousins, and his faithful companion, Oadie. Rest in peace, Tyler. You are loved beyond measure. A Viewing was held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 9:30 AM at the Church of The Visitation in Topping, VA followed by a mass at 11 o’clock.

Willis Benjamin “Bennie” Gillespie, 74, husband of Sheila Lee Baldwin Gillespie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 13, 2025, at his residence. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Willis Hampton and Sybil Trotter Gillespie. Bennie was a combat veteran who proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He spent many years with the Singer Company and later retired from Michelin. He attended Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Lee Baldwin Gillespie; children, Benjamin Keith Gillespie (Tammy) and Erica LeeWells (Jonathan); grandchildren, Madison Gillespie, Skylar Gillespie, Ashton Gillespie, Savannah Wells, Ava Wells, and Joanna Wells; great grandchildren, Kylin Gillespie and Nova Hamilton; brother, Jimmy Gillespie (Anita), sister, Frances Sullivan (Jim), and nephews, Aaron Baldwin and Douglas Baldwin.
