Arlene M. Gillespie, age 83, of Brick, NJ passed away on November 30, 2023.  Arlene was born in Jersey City Feb 2, 1940;  she lived in Morris County for 49 years; she and her family vacationed at the Jersey Shore since the 1960’ s until she and her husband, Tom, moved here permanently in 2014.  Arlene volunteered a lot of her time with the Presbyterian Church of Wharton, she enjoyed shopping, and was a loving wife and mother that has always been there for her children and grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by one grandchild, Curtis Richards.

Surviving Arlene are her husband of 63 years, Thomas Gillespie; her children, Susan Gillespie, Tammy Velardi, and Steven Gillespie; grandchildren, Holly Richards-Webb, Kyle Velardi, Matthew Gillespie, and Rebeca Gillespie; she is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Vincent, Zack, Kyra, and Layla. A viewing for Arlene was held on Tuesday from 4 pm to 8 pm at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road Brick, NJ 08723.  A funeral home service was held on Wednesday at 10 am.  Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

Charles Lewis Gillespie of Yardville, NJ.  86, passed away Thursday at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Born in Cincinnati, OH, Mr. Gillespie grew up in New York City where he met Ruth, his beloved wife of 63 years. He later moved to New Jersey and in 1987 retired to Yardville. Mr. Gillespie retired after 25 years with West Vaco Company where he worked in middle management in New York, NY. He also retired after 10 years with Schiffenhause in Newark. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a former member of the Kiwanis of Meriden, CT, and a former chaplain of the Elks in Rutherford. He loved gardening, swimming, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Son of the late Rexford Elton and Rose Mary Carroll Gillespie; brother-in-law of the late Marie Gillespie and Betty Gillespie; and loving husband of the late Ruth Serras Gillespie; he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and John Machemer of Hamilton Square, and Jane and Bob Scraver of Yardville; four grandchildren, Julie Burnett and her husband Rick, Jennifer Paulick and her husband Greg, Robert Charles Scraver, and Courtney Ruth Scraver; two great-grandsons, Damian John Burnett, and Ian Gregory Paulick; three brothers and one sister-in-law, James Gillespie of East Meadow, NY, Richard and Catherine Gillespie of Kings Park, NY, and Martin Gillespie of Rockaway, NY; and many nieces and one nephew. Funeral services was held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Road, Hamilton. Burial will be private.

David O Gillespie, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend passed away at his home in Morris Plains on Friday, November 6th, 2020 at the age of 60. He fought a valiant, 12-month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Dave was born on February 4th, 1960 in Greenwich, CT. He was raised in Long Valley, NJ where he graduated from West Morris Central High School and continued on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University. Dave was married to Janine Gillespie (Farina) on June 15, 1996. They were married 24 years. It was a marriage where each felt deeply supported, understood and unconditionally loved. Soon after they welcomed two wonderful daughters, Brianna and Amanda. Dave’s greatest achievement and joy was the beautiful family he and Janine created together. His love and spirit will surround and guide them every day forward. He was a devoted husband and a patient, loving father. Some of the greatest memories his wife and daughters will hold are the annual family summer vacations to Cape May, NJ. Dave worked for FIS as the Head of Global Business Development. He truly enjoyed his job and his colleagues – so much so that he was eager to continue working even while going through treatments

Dave was so passionate about his hobbies and interests. Sports were always a significant part of his life, as he was a devoted New York Yankees and LV Raiders fan. His best memories in life included coaching his daughters’ youth sports teams, both in soccer and basketball. Dave was also an avid music lover. He was the happiest while attending Bruce Springsteen concerts, growing his CD and vinyl collection, and playing music throughout the house on his beloved stereo. Dave is survived by his wife, Janine; daughters, Brianna and Amanda; sister Evan Stratton and her husband, George; in-laws, Joe and Angela Farina; brother-in-law John Farina, and many other family members and friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth Gillespie. Dave’s passing has left a hole in the hearts of his family, friends and colleagues. The profound and unforgettable impact he had on his community will be honored in the spring, as we plan to hold a celebration of his life then due to current COVID-19 restrictions. Dave will be lovingly remembered for his depth of character, humor, intellect and loving kind nature. Arrangements are under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains.

Denise Ann Gillespie (Smith), born Dec 3, 1950, of Old Bridge Township passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Saint Peter’s University Medical Center, New Brunswick, NJ. age 70. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Denise married James Gillespie and started a family in Gerritsen Beach. She then resettled in Old Bridge Township in 1987 as her family grew. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and wife. Family was the heartbeat of her life. She was a patient, selfless, funny, caring person and an amazing mother of eleven children. She especially treasured being “Nanny” to her 24 grandchildren. For 21 years, she worked as a noon hour supervisor at the McDivitt Elementary School in Old Bridge Township where some of her children and grandchildren attended. Denise loved the beach and spent many days on the New Jersey Shore beaches of Spring Lake and Long Beach Island. She loved her many friends and was always quick to make a new friend out of a stranger wherever she went. Denise was a very proud American who also cherished her deep Irish heritage.

Predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Smith and her siblings John “Jackie” Smith and Patricia McAuliffe, she is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, James J. Gillespie; her children Denise Bradley and husband Gary, James Gillespie and wife Christine, Christopher Gillespie and wife Crystal, Timothy Gillespie and wife Michelle, Michele Haviland and husband Daniel, Tara Denworth and husband Jeffrey, Thomas Gillespie and fiancée Aisling Melillo, Erin Rybek and husband Christopher and, Sean, Patrick, and the bright light of her life, John Gillespie; her siblings Elizabeth Ann Volpe, husband Peter and daughter Jaclyn and Michael Smith and wife Desiree, and; her grandchildren Kelly, Colleen, Ryan, Julianna, James, Natalie, Owen, Aidan, Scarlett, Quinn, Luke, Brady, Jane, Jack, Molly, Kennedy, Emmett, Charlotte, Hannah, Theodore, Emma, Sophie, Olivia, and her future grandchild due in April of 2022

Major Donald Gillespie. On September 13, 2022, Donald Gillespie passed into peace.  Donald was born to Mary Elizabeth and James Bernard Gillespie on October 15, 1933, in Camden, New Jersey.

He is survived by his son: James Gillespie; his grandchildren: Ryan, Terri, and Laura Gillespie; his niece: Linda; nephew: Bill and their families; his close friend: Joe Berarducci and family. He joins his beloved wife Gail, his parents, sister Sue West, son Bill and daughter in-law Beth Gillespie who preceded him in death.

In life he grew from a Jersey boy to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. After joining the Navy, he decided to transfer to the Air Force allowing him to fly his favorite planes–especially the KB50. As he traveled the world, he was able to visit exotic locales; stationed in places like Yokota, Japan, Sondrestrom, Greenland, and even flying special missions to Antarctica via Christchurch, New Zealand. He had a dedicated career as a navigator for the Air Force with over 8000 hours in the air and served through the Korean and Vietnam Wars with 118 combat missions. After over twenty years of service, he retired as a Major Master Navigator in 1973.

In 1956, Don married his wife Gail after meeting her while she was visiting family in Charleston, South Carolina. They went on to have two sons who enjoyed growing up as global citizens. With his wife Gail and sons, Bill and Jim, they settled in Colorado Springs where they opened Western Décor, a prosperous painting business (harkening back to his successful snowball business at age 7). Colorado Springs was chosen for the family’s love of skiing and outdoors. An avid skier with a love of sports, Don could always be found on the slopes in winter or during summer in the pool, on the golf course or basketball court. Don remained active well into his 70’s, always enjoying Breckenridge. He watched his sons grow up on the slopes, and some of his favorite memories as a grandpa were teaching his three grandchildren to ski and trouncing them in bridge with Gail, his partner of fifty-five wonderful years.

Douglas Gillespie, 66, of Brielle passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12, 2020.  He was born in Neptune and raised in Adelphia before settling in Brielle. Doug had worked at Y.A.C.C. in Highbridge, where he met his wife, Valerie.  He then went on to become a woodshop teacher at Collier High School prior to becoming the Vice Principal. Doug was a member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #16 in Freehold and could always be found working on his house which he proudly built from the ground up with his wife.  He loved to spend time walking on the beach and riding his bike in Manasquan. Doug also enjoyed working on his cars, stargazing, and playing music. He was a true animal lover and above all else, Doug loved spending time with his family.

Doug was predeceased by his wife, Valerie in 2020; mother, Virginia Gillespie in 2019; and father, Douglas Gillespie in 2007.  He is survived by his loving children, Kathleen Goldberg and her husband, Thomas of Toms River and Margaret Gillespie of New York City; granddaughter, Riley Goldberg; and siblings, Christine Sague and her husband, Garrett of Beachwood, Thomas Gillespie and his wife, Alison of Bethlehem, PA, and Laurie Anne Patterson and her husband, Carl of Howell; and many loving family and friends.

James Gillespie, 76, of Belleville, N.J., passed away on Sunday. Oct 2014.  Visitation was on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral home service was conducted by the the Zarro Funeral Home,  145 Harrison Street, Bloomfield, N.J., on Wednesday night, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Cremation was private.

James was born  He was born 1938. in Montclair, N.J., to the late William and Katherine Gillespie, and lived most of his life in Bloomfield before moving to Belleville 14 years ago. James was in the U.S. Navy. When he returned, he worked for Fluid Handling Systems in Secaucus, N.J., for 30 years. He is survived by his loving children, James Gillespie, Nancy Donatiello and her husband, Gerardo, and Loriann DeGiacomo and her husband, David; sisters, Betty Mueller, Katherine Gillespie, and Sally Strazza, and grandchildren, Nicole, Rocco, Danielle, and Melissa. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Morley.

James David Gillespie passed away suddenly from a heart attack on January 3rd, 2019, at RWJ Rahway Hospital. He was 53 years old. Born in Orange, NJ to Richard and Anne Gillespie, Jim grew up in Glen Ridge, then lived in Hoboken for a number of years, until he met his wife and moved to South Orange and, ultimately, Clark, NJ.Mr. Gillespie was a financial recruiter in New York City for 20 years. An avid golfer and movie buff, Jim’s warmth and sunny personality made him an exceptional friend and wonderful husband and father. His love for his family shone through in everything he did. Jim’s friends knew him as a kind, funny, generous person who was always good for a laugh. He had an uncanny ability to find something in common with everyone he met. He worked hard to provide for his family and was adored by his two girls, Olivia & Madelaine. He is deeply missed. Mr. James Gillespie was predeceased by his parents.

Jim owned Lindenwold Taxi Cabs and was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose # 548 in Lindenwold. James Patrick Gillespie, 87, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026. Born Jan. 7, 1939, in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the beloved son of the late Anthony Gillespie and Nora Gillespie (Doherty). Jim was a devoted husband to Lois Gillespie (Caddoo), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a proud and loving father to James P. Gillespie Jr., Daniel Gillespie, Elizabeth DePadova and Sara DePadova. He was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Patricia Gillespie. He was a treasured grandfather to Shannon, Shaun, Sarah and Sherlyn, and a loving great-grandfather to Patrick, Connor, Lane, Lucas, Levi and Trip. He was also a loving uncle to Karen Dwyer and Kevin Brennan. Jim is also survived by his beloved “girl,” Kiwi, his cherished bird and constant companion. Jim was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Brennan, John Gillespie, Anthony Gillespie and Bridgitt Boyle.

Jim dedicated 35 years of his professional life as a principal accountant with PSEG, where he was respected for his integrity, diligence and steady leadership. Beyond his career, he was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He also generously gave his time as a volunteer at New Life Thrift Shop and at Beebe Healthcare’s Same Day Surgery Center, reflecting his quiet commitment to serving his community.  Visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. A funeral service took place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with a luncheon that followed onsite at the church.

Dr. Kevin Arthur Gillespie concluded his time on Earth on October 22, 2025. Kevin grew up in Rahway, NJ, and was an accomplished high school wrestler and member of the marching band. He graduated from Rutgers University and studied medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico before returning to New Jersey. After briefly operating his own practice, Kevin was an emergency room physician at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, for nearly his entire professional career.

Kevin was married to his wife Nancy for over 40 years. They shared the same birthday and their unbreakable bond only grew stronger with time, no matter what challenges they faced together. They built a life in Rahway, and then Edison, and raised two children along the way. He taught them the importance of honesty, kindness, hard work, and self-discipline, and never missed an activity or event despite his difficult work schedule. Kevin was devoted to his wife and children and was always proud of them, yet nothing made him happier than becoming a grandpa. Although his driver’s license may have said he was from New Jersey, Kevin’s heart was never far from his Cabin in the wilderness of Saranac Lake, NY – the same Cabin he had once visited as a boy with his parents and sister. Kevin treasured every moment spent there and loved to share his favorite place with others, so they could see what made it so special to him. The memories spent with Kevin at the Cabin will never be forgotten. He also always looked forward to trips to North Carolina’s Outer Banks with family. Kevin was a lifelong outdoorsman who spent countless hours fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing, and camping, and was an avid weightlifter and fitness advocate. He enjoyed hosting and cooking meals for others, especially breakfast, and always believed that it was never too early, or too late, to start cocktail hour. Kevin liked playing pinochle, dominoes, and Scrabble, where he could put his colorful vocabulary to good use, along with reading, music, politics, crosswords and jumbles, and the supermarket. Regardless of age, he never lost his sense of excitement at finding loose change or a bargain at a yard sale. Kevin was a man of faith who attended daily mass and was active in both his church and the Knights of Columbus. He was honored as a Torchbearer for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in recognition of his extensive volunteer work and community service.

Kevin was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is together with his parents, Art and Olga Gillespie, and his faithful dog Sir Charles. For now, he leaves behind his wife, Nancy Morris Gillespie; son Ryan Gillespie; daughter Kelly Ohayon and her husband Alexander; granddaughter Riley Ohayon; sister Deborah Prakapas and her husband Peter; five nieces and nephews who he loved very much; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends. Although Kevin’s passing has left a void that will never be filled, his family and friends will all laugh and smile at the memories, fun, and good times shared together with him.

Kevin’s life was celebrated on October 27th at Gosselin Funeral Home in Edison from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a funeral mass on October 28th at St. John Vianney Church in Colonia at 10:00 AM.

Kyle Gillespie age 30 and formerly of Oakland, died tragically on Friday, August 13, 2021. Kyle grew up in Oakland and graduated from Indian Hills with the class of 2009. He loved playing ice hockey, roller hockey, and street hockey with “the boys.” He also loved riding dirt bikes and quads and was super lucky that his great-grandparents had a farm with many acres to ride on. He loved riding there. Sadly, while in high school, Kyle started a downward slide when drugs became involved. This story is all too familiar in our culture, and for Kyle it spiraled out of control rather quickly. He barely graduated high school and struggled to hold a job. The addiction became all-consuming. His parents and siblings did all they could, but to no avail. Kyle was on a frightening path that no one wanted to see him on, not even himself, but everyone was powerless to stop it. Kyle leaves behind many heartbroken souls, including his mother; Darlene Murphy and her husband Robert of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, his father; Thomas Gillespie of Barnegat, NJ, two brothers; Joshua Gillespie and his wife Lindsay of Bristol, PA, and Zachary Gillespie and Katie Coneys of Santa Clarita, CA, his girlfriend; Breanne MacKay, grandfather; Jacob Faber and his wife Rosalinda formerly of Haledon, NJ, great-grandmother; Helen Borduin of N. Haledon, a nephew; Jackson Gillespie, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents; Jacalyn Faber (2006), Robert and Barbara Gillespie.  Friends were invited to celebrate Kyle’s life at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2-5 PM. Margaret Jean Gillespie 84, of Woodbury Heights, died Sunday April 2012 at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township after a long illness. She had recently been a resident at the nearby Kennedy Health Care Center. She was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Woodbury. After graduating from Woodbury High School in 1945, she became an operator at Bell Telephone Co. in Woodbury. She continued to work as an operator after the company became AT&T and retired in 1987 as an assistant chief operator. After she retired, she was active in the AT&T Pioneers and the Woodbury Heights Senior Citizens and also devoted much time to various crafts, especially ceramics. She was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church. She is survived by her twin, Shirley Elaine Gillespie of Woodbury Heights; a brother, John R. Gillespie and his wife, Mary, of Hammonton; a niece, Elizabeth Medaglia of Wyomissing Hills, Pa.; a nephew, Dr. John A. Gillespie of Berlin, Md.; three grandnephews and two grandnieces; and her friends, Samuel and Janette Sciglitano of Sewell. Friends visited with the family Thursday from 10am to 11:30am at the Davis & Wagner Funeral Home, 171 Delaware St., Woodbury. A burial service  followed at 12 noon at Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Delaware St. Woodbury. Interment will be in Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro.

He grew up in Mountainside, NJ, and attended Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School in Clark. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia (Ginny) on November 30, 1963. He worked at Foley Machinery, Inc. in Piscataway for 46 years, retiring in 2009. In retirement, Pete made a point of keeping busy, whether it be tending to yard work or lending a hand to a friend in need. He also enjoyed settling into a shady spot under the maple tree he planted in front of his home many years ago to read his daily newspapers, a Readers Digest, or the Farmer’s Almanac.   Pete looked forward to Sunday breakfasts with Ginny, often followed by a leisurely drive through the Somerset Hills. He was a familiar face in the neighborhood as he walked to meet his pals at the Washington Deli six days a week for coffee and scratch offs. Thursday lunches with Larry, his friend of over seventy years, were a time-honored tradition. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and Notre Dame football. He enjoyed a round of golf or practicing his chip shot in the front yard, but especially looked forward to watching golf tournaments on television. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Horton Gillespie, daughters Lori Ciaccio, Michelle Mackie and her husband Neil, Cara Gillespie and her wife Pam, grandchildren Danny, Christina, Nikole, Breanne, Neil, Olivia, great grandson, Sylas, brother Dave, and his dog (and little sidekick), Jessica. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Phyllis Gillespie, brother Michael Gillespie, and sister Denise Powell. Friends  visited the family on Tuesday, September 13 from 2:00-5:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue in Dunellen. All other services were held privately.

Robert Gillespie, 56, b Oct 26, 1960, of Vineland, passed away on March 5, 2017 at Inspira Medical Center. He was born on October 26, 1960 to Robert Gillespie Sr. and Gladys Gillespie. Robert graduated from Vineland High School in 1978. After high school he played bass in a band and traveled to California. He then worked at the New Jersey Memorial Home where he met his future wife Maria Villanueva. They were married for 30 years. Robert was a member of the Voice of Deliverance New Covenant Church where he played in the band on Sundays. Robert enjoyed various hobbies including collecting antique cars and making music with various instruments. Robert is survived by his wife Maria Gillespie; daughter Star Gillespie; son Carlos Arbelo; mother Gladys Gillespie; brother Larry Bostic and his sisters Vanessa Thompson and Duralee Upshur. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Alexsia Gillespie, Diego and Gianna Arbelo. A church visitation was held on Thursday from 9am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am from Voice Of Deliverance Church, 1413 E. Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Shirley E. Gillespie, formerly of Woodbury and Woodbury Heights, died Thursday, May 14, 2020, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Md., where she had resided for almost three years. She was 92. Shirley was born in Woodbury and was a 1945 Woodbury High School graduate. She spent most of her working career with RCA/GE in Camden and Deptford before retiring in 1992. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Daisy Gillespie, a sister, Mary Lindvig; a brother, Joseph; her twin, Margaret Gillespie; and a niece, Deborah Sciglitano. She is survived by her brother, John R. Gillespie and his wife, Mary, of Hammonton; a nephew, Dr. John A. Gillespie and his wife, Michele, of Berlin, Md.,; a niece, Beth Good and her husband, Steve, of Reinholds, Pa.; three grandnephews, Jake Gillespie, Maximillian Medaglia and Daniel Medaglia; and a grandniece, Paige Gillespie. Thomas Gene Gillespie birth Aug 12, 1963. Death March 14, 2012, age 48, Salem, New Jersey.  Thomas Gene Gillespie, age 48 of Pennsville passed away on Wednesday March 14, 2012 at his home in Bridgeport, NJ. He was born August 12, 1963 in Salem and was the son of the late James H. Jr. and Ruth J. Wood Gillespie. He was a 1981 graduate of Pennsville Memorial High School. He was a dedicated worker for over 20 years with Siegfried USA in Pennsville and enjoyed hunting and riding his motorcycle. Survived by his son, Joshua Thomas Gillespie, brother, James H. Gillespie, III and his wife Lisa of Pennsville, and a niece and nephew. Funeral service was held 11:00 am Monday March 19, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends  called Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown.

Thomas Wayne Gillespie birth Sept 2, 1943. Death March 5, 2011 age 67, Paterson, New Jersey, USA. Friends visited with the family on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne. Friends and family were asked to gather at Saint Josephs RC Church, 454 Germantown Rd., West Milford on Thursday, March 10, 2011 for a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. Interment in  St. Josephs Cemetery directly behind the church.

He was born in Paterson and was a resident of Wayne for many years.  He graduated from Wayne Valley High School with the Class of 1961 and continued his education at Rutgers University, New Brunswick where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with the Class of 1965. During his high school and college years Tom worked as a carpenter.  After college he found employment at the Great American Insurance Company, Paterson where he worked as an Insurance Adjuster.  He later worked for the Sarasohn & Company as a Public Insurance Adjuster.  He later joined with his two sons to form the Gillespie & Gibson Corporation, Totowa before retiring in 2007. Tom first met the love of his life Susanne Kirchner when they were in 5th grade.  Their first date was to the Totowa Drive In movie theatre followed by a trip to the Milk Barn on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne.  They were high school sweethearts and during his third year of college they married. The wedding was held at the Preakness Reformed Church, Wayne on March 21, 1964.  Tom and Susanne have enjoyed forty-seven years of devoted marriage. Tom was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was also an avid sportsman having played four years of high school football, enjoyed tennis and was a very competitive golfer. He delighted in being the champion of the Eagle Ridge Golf, Lakewood, a title he held for a couple of years.  Another of Tom’s loves was his dogs. Over the years he has had a German Retriever, two Golden Retrievers, an Irish Setter and currently his faithful English Setter “Archer” who will miss him dearly.

Tom was the loving husband of Susanne Gillespie; devoted father of Todd Gillespie and his wife Theresa of West Milford, and Timothy Gillespie of West Milford; cherished grandfather of Alexandra and Thomas Gillespie; loved brother of Judith Mett and her husband Otto of Hardyston and Herbert Lees of Wayne.

Valerie K. Gillespie, 58, of Brielle passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at home with her family by her side. She was born in Newark, raised in Orange, moved to Penn State to attend college, and settled in Brielle in 1980. Valerie was a graduate of Orange High School and Penn State University. She started her own business in 2003, Gillespie Engineering Inc. Valerie enjoyed playing softball, playing and coaching throughout her life, and was the first female to play hardball in Essex County. She was passionate about riding motorcycles with her group, NJMC and HOG. In her spare time, she could be found singing Karaoke, playing group trivia, and Jeopardy. She was a life-long learner and loved to study history, technology and anything to add to her vast wealth of knowledge. Valerie was active in the Penn State Alumni Association and hosted the Central New Jersey Football Watching Parties, bringing people together. She was passionate about being charitable, raising thousands of dollars for THON for Penn State, during and after graduation. Valerie enjoyed playing a variety of instruments with her family, especially her guitar.

She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Walsh; father-in-law, Douglas; and mother-in-law, Virginia. Valerie is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Douglas Gillespie, of Brielle, NJ; mother, Esther Aruz of Orange, NJ; daughters, Kate Goldberg and her husband, Thomas of Toms River, NJ, Maggie Gillespie of New York City, NY; granddaughter, Riley Goldberg of Toms River, NJ; sisters, Kellyann Kovach and her husband, Jerry Bowers of Orange, NJ, and Jodie Donovan of Naples, FL; best friends, Sharon Yasko of Piscataway, NJ, and Linda Holoviak of State College, PA; and many loving family and friends.
