Donna S Gillespie

Donna S. (Hall) Gillespie, 85, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Gillespie, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family, on March 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Borger, Texas on December 11, 1939, Donna was the daughter of the late Mark and Clara Hall of Phoenix, AZ and the beloved daughter-in-law of B. Irene (Scott) Gillespie. She attended public school in Glendale AZ and enlisted in the United States Army in 1958. She was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany where she was a cryptographer and administrative and clerical specialist in the Signal Service Battalion. Donna was called upon several times during her Army career to serve as a public relations representative for the troops serving in Germany and she even performed with the USO on one occasion.

While stationed in Heidelberg she met her husband, Thomas who was also serving at the U.S. 8th Army Headquarters as a Military Police Officer. After just one dance, they knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. Tom and Donna were married in Ipswich on June 24, 1961. Donna continued her career as an administrative assistant and over the years worked in several different fields including medical, real estate, fabrication and banking. One of her favorite jobs was at the Ipswich Savings Bank where she was the bank president’s administrative assistant in the mid-1960’s and then returned in the mid-1980’s as the VP’s administrative assistant. She and Tom owned and operated the former Willcomb’s Store, later a food service business and for many years they spent the end of September and beginning of October preparing and selling crab and lobster rolls at the annual Topsfield Fair. Donna concluded her career as the office manager for her husband and youngest son, Mark’s electrical contracting company until both she and Tom retired in 2010.

Over the years Donna enjoyed many hobbies but excelled in the kitchen and garden. She was a self-taught “gourmet” cook and had a flare for decorating and entertaining. She was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club, attended landscape design school and was a frequent entrant in various flower arranging categories at the Topsfield Fair. She was eager to share her culinary and horticulture knowledge and talent with all three of her children as well as her grandchildren. Donna was a retired member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Ipswich United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and helped to originate the televised services at the Ipswich campus, but her true spiritual joy came from sharing bible study and Sunday worship with her Church family. Donna had a beautiful signing voice and in addition to the church choir, was a member of the Newburyport Choral Society for several years where she most enjoyed their Christmas performances. Donna enjoyed her time with her family the most, whether it was playing golf at Ould Newbury Golf Course, boating, fishing & clamming in Ipswich Bay, Sunday afternoons watching a Patriots game or a family holiday gathering, as long as they were together, she was in her happy place.
Donna is survived by a daughter, Cheryl L. Gorniewicz and her husband Benjie of Ipswich; two sons, Thomas S. Gillespie and his wife Melissa of VA and Mark M. Gillespie and his companion Lisa Teele of Ipswich. She was the beloved grandmother of Nicholas Pappas and his wife Liz of RI, Mariah Gillespie and her companion Patrick Terry of OR, Alesandra Gillespie and her companion Joey Nickerson of Essex and their mother, Alexis Gillespie of Ipswich and Jacqueline Gillespie and her companion Matt Gagnon of Ipswich. She was also the honorary grandmother to MaryKate and Patrick O’Regan of Haverhill. Donna was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Nick, Bella and William; three nieces, Kellie Gillespie and Marcene “Gigi” Pierce both of CA, Diane Gillespie of NH; one nephew, Jerry Hall of AZ, four great nieces, Paris, Daniel, Taylor and Becca and one great nephew, Brock, all of CA. Luke Gillespie
Luke Gillespie

Luke Gillespie of Acton, MA. Luke was born on April 1,1949 in Boston, MA to the late Mary (Gainey) and Dr. Luke Gillespie.  He graduated from Newton High School [1] in 1966 .  He lived most of his adult life in Wayland, MA and moved to Acton, MA where he died on December 18, 2025 at the age of 76. Raised in Newton, his Grandmother Grace and aunts introduced him at a young age to his life long passion for bridge. Known as a fierce competitor at home, in 2016 he was awarded the Larry Weiss Trophy by ACBL District 25 who noted his pleasant demeanor and graciousness at the bridge table. His love for bridge continued throughout his life, donating his time to supporting the Eastern Mass Bridge Association, taking on leadership positions, and attaining Diamond Life Master.

Luke first ventured into computing at Computer Library Services, Inc. (CLSI), then networking at DEC/Digital.  It was the purchase of his then employer, TCI, by Bell Atlantic that his three decade long career as an independent consultant began. An expert in communications protocols, he spearheaded the development of SS7 Front-End Processors used by Bellcore in their national 800 and Line Information database applications. He retired in 2019.

It was at CLSI that he met his wife, Debby, and impressed her with his intellect, kindness, and generosity. A devoted husband and father, he shared his skills as a card shark with his sons and coached each of their teams when young. Frustratingly fair as a coach, he had the patience of a saint and was ready to join any activity they suggested. He relished his role as “Papa”, taking his grandkids on “mystery tours,” reading tirelessly, and enjoying their many activities and accomplishments. He was immensely proud of his family.

Surviving him is his wife, Deborah Holtz and his sons and grandchildren, Earl (Ponah), Ila and Anora; Aaron (Carolyn Park), Everly and Emerson; Eric (Gina), Charlotte, Christian, and Calvin.  He leaves brothers, John (Linda) and David (Michel) sister-in-law Signe Holtz (Ron Halvorson); his nieces and nephews, Sarah (Adam Johnson), Ian, Katherine, and John Gillespie,  Loronah Thom, Kerensa (Kyle Simpson), Debne (Chris Marlette), and Stuart Thom.

Richard “Dick” Gillespie of Wrentham, MA, passed away at home on June 7, 2022. Dick was born on September 22, 1943, to the late Peter and Jane (Campbell) Gillespie. He was raised in Stoughton, MA graduating from Stoughton High School. Immediately following graduation, Dick enlisted in the US Navy serving four years. Following the Navy, Dick relocated to Wrentham MA in 1969 where he proudly raised his family and called home for the remainder of his life. Dick was a dedicated police officer in Wrentham serving first as a patrolman before being promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant and ultimately Chief of Police before his retirement in 2008. During that time, he also served as the Town’s Harbormaster as well as an EMT and constable for the Town of Wrentham. After retirement and up until 2020, one could always find Dick around town directing traffic, working road details, or working his beloved detail at the Wrentham Premium Outlets.

Dick graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Bryant University and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England College. Additionally, Dick attended Dean College throughout his career, as he was always looking to expand his education and wealth of knowledge.  He was a motorcycle enthusiast and rode his motorcycle all over the country with the love of his life, Annie, in the passenger’s seat. He was an avid fisherman and could often be found cruising around the waters off of Cape Cod in his Grady White, albeit he was a horrible fisherman, something he would wholeheartedly admit. Dick loved “chowda” a good lobster roll, two things he would travel miles for. Dick and Annie were also known to drive miles for an extremely good breakfast, eventually landing them at Knights Farm in Rhode Island and introducing them to their treasured Knights Farm family.
